The Tak occurrence is situated on the western rim of a cirque basin, on what is known locally as Goat Ridge, approximately 35 kilometres west-southwest of Germansen Landing.

The prospect occurs at the contact between volcanic rocks of the Lower Jurassic Twin Creek Formation of the Middle Triassic-Lower Jurassic Takla Group, and dioritic and monzodioritic phases of probable Early Jurassic age of the Late Triassic-Early Cretaceous Hogem Intrusive Complex. The contact is a complex hybrid zone of intrusive, subvolcanic, and volcanic rocks. Volcanic textures are difficult to discern due to contact metamorphism; many volcanic fragments occur as ghost outlines and clots of epidote suggesting resorption and metasomatic alteration with intrusive phases.

Traces of finely disseminated pyrite are ubiquitous in the volcanic rocks and are marked by the development of gossans on Goat Ridge. Chalcopyrite mineralization (up to 5 per cent by volume) appears to occur within fractures/faults cutting intrusive bodies and as disseminations, stringers, and fillings within a few metres of such structures. Minor bornite has also been observed. Silver and gold exhibit a strong association with the sulphides.

The main Takla (Goat Ridge) zone comprises occasional narrow (5 to 20 centimetres wide) quartz-ankerite shear zones containing disseminated pyrite with malachite staining. The shears generally trend 060 degrees and have been traced in outcrop for approximately 50 metres. The shears a spaced approximately 100 metres apart.

In 1966, a high-grade sample (6369) assayed 4.31 per cent copper, 37.7 grams per tonne silver and 0.69 gram per tonne gold, whereas two other samples (6367 and 6368) from the north and south ends of the mineralized zone yielded 1.11 and 2.06 per cent copper, respectively, with 10.3 grams per tonne silver and 0.69 gram per tonne gold each (Assessment Report 816).

In 1969, three chip samples (OS-1 through -3) yielded 0.84, 0.36 and 1.56 per cent copper over 3.0, 3.6 and 2.1 metres, respectively (Property File - Kikuchi, T. [1969-10-03]: Preliminary Geological Report on the Omineca Show Property).

In 1985, a sample (NS25-B) from the area assayed 1.24 per cent copper, 33.2 grams per tonne silver and 0.73 gram per tonne gold, whereas another sample (GOAT-4+30-C) from the Goat Ridge area yielded 0.103 per cent copper (Assessment Report 15652).

In 1990, a grab sample (10129) of epidotized and malachite-azurite–stained hybrid intrusive rock hosting up to 5 per cent chalcopyrite in semi-massive pods from a showing on the Goat Ridge zone assayed 1.53 per cent copper, 1.80 grams per tonne gold and 40.5 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 20838).

In 1991, a grab sample (P91NL049) from the Goat Ridge zone yielded up to 0.741 per cent copper, 3.1 grams per tonne silver and 0.15 gram per tonne gold, whereas a chip sample (P91NL048) yielded 0.36 gram per tonne gold over 0.5 metre (Assessment Report 22192).

Work History

The area was original staked in 1965 by R.M. Tait. During 1967 through 1969, Northstar Copper Mines Limited completed programs of prospecting, geological mapping, geochemical sampling and 33 drillholes, totalling 2636.7 metres, on the area. No drilling results are known.

In 1985, Imperial Metals Corp. staked the area as the North Slope group of claims and the following year completed a program of geological mapping and geochemical (rock and soil) sampling on the area.

In 1990, Rio Algom staked the Tak 1 to 4 claims covering the area of the Bob claims and carried out an airborne magnetic and VLF- EM survey totalling 300 kilometres, prospecting, reconnaissance geological mapping and rock sampling (57 samples). Contour soil sampling (97 samples) was done in the area of the southwestern cirque.

In 1991, an exploration program was conducted by operator Placer Dome. A 24.85 line-kilometre grid was established using compass and hipchain. A total of 484 soil and 44 rock samples were taken. Three diamond-drill holes were drilled in the grid area totalling 452.63 metres of BQ size core; no significant mineralization was intersected in the drillholes.

Also in 1990 and 1991, Golden Rule Resources Ltd. completed programs of geological mapping, geochemical (rock, silt and soil) sampling and a 1500 line-kilometre airborne geophysical survey on the area as the Takla property.

Also in 1991, Placer Development Ltd., on the behalf of Eastfield Resources Ltd., completed a program of rock and soil sampling, geological mapping and a 21.6 line-kilometre induced polarization survey on the area immediately west as the Nell claims.

During 2005 through 2010, Redton Resources and Geoinformatics Exploration Canada Inc. undertook work on the regionally extensive Redton property, which covered the Falcon (MINFILE 093N 068) occurrence to the south (just north of Nation Lake) and north to the Tak (MINFILE 093N 067) occurrence, approximately 6 kilometres south of the Omineca River. In 2005, a 5764.0 line-kilometre airborne magnetic and electromagnetic survey was completed on the area as the Takla-Redton property. In 2006, a program of geological mapping and geochemical (rock, silt, and soil) sampling was completed on the property along with 12 diamond drill holes, totalling 4032.5 metres, on the Takla-Rainbow (MINFILE 093N 082) and Tak occurrences. In 2007 and 2008, programs of geochemical sampling (rock, silt, and soil) sampling, ground geophysical surveys and 10 diamond drill holes, totalling 3784.0 metres, were completed on the property. This work centred primarily on the Takla-Rainbow occurrence to the north and Falcon occurrence to the south. In 2010, a subsequent AeroTEM survey by Redton Resources identified 65 electromagnetic anomalies on the property.

In 2011, the Tak was held within the Redton property and being operated by Kiska Metals Corporation. Soil geochemistry (1100 samples) and reconnaissance prospecting (17 rock samples) was completed over the north and central blocks of the property, identifying several new soil geochemical anomalies. The Redton North polymetallic soil anomalies include Tak North (1000 metres north of the Tak occurrence plotted location) and Duckling (1500 metres northeast of Tak). These multielement anomalies are thought to straddle the contact between the Hogem batholith (mainly monzonite) and Takla Group undifferentiated volcanics and may be in a zone of mixing between the two units. Early Cretaceous granites occur in part of the Tak North anomaly. The Duckling anomaly may also partly follow a drainage (Duckling Creek. Tak North also has anomalous copper and molybdenum continuing north from the main anomaly. Tak North seems draped across a high onto the margins of a magnetic high. Duckling sits in a relatively low area. Another smaller anomaly east of Duckling sits in a magnetic depression. The polymetallic anomalies in this Redton North grid area seem to form a group trending east to northeast and southeast.
